Bronwen Newbury

In Residence on the verandahs at Donnelly River Village

30 July – 17 August 2018

Bronwen Newbury lives and paints on the land, near the sea, surrounded by nature, family, friends and dogs.

It follows that ‘Landscape plus life’ could be her creative motto. Her paintings – often colourful, sometimes whimsical, always evocative – reflect not only scenes from her life on a vineyard near the vibrant coastal hub of Albany, but the many other places, people, scenery and dogs she has known – or hopes to know some day.

Bronwen plays intuitively with light, colour and shape to create her distinctive acrylic artworks. She is endlessly versatile, moving effortlessly between abstract and representational, landscapes and figurative works. Her relaxed style sees her building layers of paint to tease out forms in the landscape.

The coast also provides constant fuel for her imagination. Her well recognised beach scenes – often peopled by crowds of relaxed and playful holidaymakers (and their dogs) – demonstrate her uncommon ability to blend landscape and figurative work.

Bronwen has exhibited widely around Australia and has won multiple awards and commendations at art shows around the country.
