ARTIST BIO

Jessica Holliday is a Perth-based Australian artist whose soft pastel practice is shaped by the light, colour and scale of remote landscapes. Grounded in time spent immersed in the natural environment, her work captures the emotional and visual essence of place.

She has been a finalist in several prestigious art awards including the Royal Perth Landscape Prize, the Collie Art Prize, the Cossack Art Award, the Minnawarra Art Award and the Robert Juniper Landscape Art Prize. Her work is held in private and corporate collections in Australia and overseas.

She has presented five solo exhibitions, received two art awards, and undertaken residencies and open-studio programs. She continues to develop her practice through sustained exploration of the natural world and a commitment to capturing the beauty and complexity of the Australian landscape.

ARTIST STATEMENT

My practice is shaped by the light, colour, contrast and scale of remote and regional wilderness landscapes. I’m drawn to the way certain places leave an imprint, a feeling, a memory, a sense of presence and I aim to express both their visual and emotional essence.

I explore the concept of natural beauty as a function, a force that can unravel the soul, invite moments of pause, open space for self-reflection and create resonating moments of wonder. My focus lies not only in the sublime qualities of these environments, but also in conveying the deep connection, rare stillness and sense of infinity they hold.

I work with soft pastel in a painterly, exploratory way, pushing the medium beyond its traditional boundaries to investigate the dialogue between landscape and inner experience. Time spent immersed in the natural world is central to my process, and each work becomes a response to the impressions these places leave behind.
