David Carson’s What Lies Beneath – Karri forest floor to canopy, created during his Donnelly Verandah Residency, inspired themes and provided some material for his new work Canopies and Cathedrals, which explores connections between WA’s ancient forests and England’s Gothic heritage.

Developed with WA artist Sarah Robinson and UK-based MPM Sound Ensemble, Canopies and Cathedrals premiered in June 2025 in the 13th-century Chapter House at Wells Cathedral, UK, and screens daily on the Northbridge Piazza screen throughout August.
